My sweet baby, how time keeps flying. I wish I had more time but instead, I will do the best I can to make the time we do have truly count. I love you more than you could ever know or I could ever express.

This post was created in partnership with Milestone World but all thoughts and opinions are of my own.
Hey guys! It's been a while since we last chatted. Let me explain my absence a bit. If you remember from this post I gave extra income ideas as I was playing with ways to make money since our family was downsizing to one income. Obviously when Sophia was born that happened.
At the beginning of this year, I started babysitting at home and it has been a challenge as I'm use to Sophia's independence and when I finally have a breather I just want to curl up on the couch with a good book which is what I have been doing (many book reviews to come). However this has gotten me behind on my monthly updates of Sophia.

My little girl is 11 months old and I need to type up her 10 month post for last month and her 11 month post for this month and take her 11 month photo update.

I have been wanting to put together a reading list for the year but I still am not certain of all the books I want to read so I decided to break this up by season: spring, summer and fall.
You will notice I didn't include winter because if we are being honest, Houston doesn't know what winter is at least not in the last few years, haha.
Anyways, the books on this list should get me from now until May and if I stick with my intention of reading 12 books in a year than that leaves me with reading 5 books in this season. I have already started one which is One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp and I am blown away by this book. Kinda kicking myself for never buying it sooner as I have wanted it for years now. I will go into more detail about this book when I do a book review as I am planning on doing when I finish each book (I still owe y'all a book review for the Baby Led Weaning book as well).

This post is sponsored by HelloFresh but all thoughts, opinions, and adorable baby are of my own.
Imagine me loading up a 91 year old woman and a 9 month old baby to take a trip to the grocery store because that is what literally happens every other week. Sometimes I make a list, sometimes I don't, it is what it is. One of two things happen, I either forget an ingredient and I absolutely will not reload everyone back up for just one or two items, or I overbuy because why don't they sell fresh cilantro in sticks?? Like I do not need the whole thing, I need maybe a handful of leaves but that is it and I am done. I have even tried growing my own cilantro (remember my garden box? Yeah nothing survived).

That is where HelloFresh comes in, they provide you with all fresh ingredients AND they plan the recipes. That Pinterest board that you and I have overflowing of recipes we have never tried, yeah well now you can try new recipes without worrying about finding one and than having to shop for the ingredients.

This post was created in partnership with DockATot but all thoughts, opinions and night sleeping are of my own.
Once upon a time, there was a baby who did not like her mother to sleep. She needed to be near her mother and felt the need to wake up every one to two hours to ensure her mother was near. This little baby was my daughter, Sophia.
There was a time when she did sleep and only woke up twice to nurse in the middle of the night but after our vacation, time change, sickness and a new tooth, Sophia decided to act like a newborn again. When she was a new born I coveted the DockATot but I honestly didn't feel comfortable spending the money not knowing if it really worked or not.
However, this momma was desperate for sleep when Sophia's sleep regression stepped in. DockATot did provide me with my DockATot Grand but I am really kicking myself for not using all those Visa gift cards in the beginning to start off with the DockATot Deluxe. I think it would have saved me many nights of sleep lost.
For the past month, we have been doing the same nighttime routine almost every night and Sophia sleeps approximately five hours before waking for her first nighttime feeding.
Side Note: I have always purposely not followed our routine at least once a week because I do not want Sophia to become too dependent on routine to the point that she cannot fall asleep otherwise so we shake up the routine at least once a week.
After dinner, Anthony usually has one on one playtime with Sophia in her room and once we notice she is getting sleepy (rubbing eyes, overly whining, etc), we know it is time to start our bedtime routine. We do not have specific times or an amount of time we do any one thing, we follow Sophia's cues to know when to start or stop something within our routine. This is something we have found that works best for us and our daughter.
The one who is bathing her allows her to play in the tub after washing (we only wash her hair once a week due to cradle cap and this has helped tremendously).
We try to always take her out on a good note as we had a bathtime regression for a few weeks where she hated baths and mommy had to bathe with her so now we sing and play and watch her carefully to be sure to take her out before she is fussy.
I use to check my social media, catch up on blog stuff, etc. while I nursed her but I noticed the light would distract her from falling asleep no matter how dim I have it so now I put my headphones on and tune in to a podcast (I am currently listening to Read-Aloud Revival and A Delectable Education).
The DockATot is in the middle of our bed and I lay Sophia down in it as Anthony puts the iPad on our nightstand. Every once in awhile, she will wake up during the transition so one of us will try to get her back to sleep.
We started this whole routine in November (and we actually use to follow this routine before our vacation expect Sophia would put herself to sleep) and received our DockATot in December. It wasn't until we started using the DockATot that we saw real progress for how she use to sleep before the regression. The first night in it, Sophia slept six, S-I-X, hours and the next day she napped for a whole hour and a half in it (nap regression is a whole other story).
Now I seriously cannot imagine life without our DockATot and I am really wishing we would have gotten it sooner. Thank you DockATot for giving this momma and daddy more sleep!
Have you tried the DockATot? What does your bedtime routine look like?

This is something we have found that works best for us and our daughter.
Bathtime
Anthony and I take turns on who will bathe her. Whoever is not doing bathtime, is preparing the rooms for bedtime such as turning lights off, turning on lullaby music, setting up humidifier, undoing bed, getting out pjs, etc.The one who is bathing her allows her to play in the tub after washing (we only wash her hair once a week due to cradle cap and this has helped tremendously).
We try to always take her out on a good note as we had a bathtime regression for a few weeks where she hated baths and mommy had to bathe with her so now we sing and play and watch her carefully to be sure to take her out before she is fussy.
Pajamas
The same person who bathes her also dries her off, puts on a fresh diaper and her pajamas. If the house still isn't ready, she is distracted for a bit.Devotional
Anthony and I take turns reading a daily devotional to her from my childhood devotional book. Sometimes I nurse Sophia during our devotional and sometimes I do not, it just depends on how tired or fussy she is. For the most part, we can do this without nursing.Nursing and Lullabies
Anthony turns off the light in the nursery while I rock Sophia in our rocking chair and I nurse her to sleep. FYI, I know there is controversy over nursing to sleep but this is what works for my family at the moment and we are perfectly okay with that.I use to check my social media, catch up on blog stuff, etc. while I nursed her but I noticed the light would distract her from falling asleep no matter how dim I have it so now I put my headphones on and tune in to a podcast (I am currently listening to Read-Aloud Revival and A Delectable Education).
DockATot
Sophia is typically asleep by time I finish a podcast episode so I will text Anthony to come help me move from the nursery to our room. I take the headphones off and leave my phone on the end table in the nursery and Anthony grabs the iPad that is playing the lullaby music and follows behind me to our room. The DockATot is in the middle of our bed and I lay Sophia down in it as Anthony puts the iPad on our nightstand. Every once in awhile, she will wake up during the transition so one of us will try to get her back to sleep.

This post was created in partnership with Freshly Picked but all thoughts, opinions and story telling are of my own.
I have been a customer and window shopper/lover of Freshly Picked since I became pregnant with Sophia last year. I was so excited when we purchased her first pair earlier this year (we chose the newborn ivory pair) as they were super easy to put on and stay on.

What No One Tells You When You Are Expecting + Freshly Picked GIVEAWAY

Car seat safety
No one tells you how to install the car seat, let alone how to put the baby in the car seat safely. Of course all car seats come with a manual, unless you buy it used but be VERY CAUTION when buying used. Make sure the car seat hasn't been recalled and only buy from someone you trust and will tell you truthfully if the car seat has been an accident. However, I highly recommend buying a brand new car seat, it is better to be safe than sorry.
Back to my first point, of course it comes with the manual but some people do not read manuals. We didn't and we not only struggled with installing it but also with putting our newborn baby into it after leaving the hospital. Might I add, our hospital did not do a car seat check because of liability issues, I'm assuming no hospitals do car seat checks unless you have a preemie or a low birth weight baby (correct me if I am wrong, guys).
Once we YouTube'd it (because I mean how else do we find out these things, am I right?), we were able to get her in but again NO ONE told us that the chest clip should be at her chest and not her belly until a follower mentioned it when she was FIVE MONTHS OLD so we have been having our baby improperly restrained for FIVE WHOLE MONTHS.
Moral of the story, READ THOSE MANUALS!!
Chin to chest sleeping hazard
There will come a time, when the baby sleeps best in either the bouncer, the swing or her car seat and it is easier to leave her there to nap instead of moving her to her bassinet or crib. However, sleeping elevated like that, gravity pulls that baby's big ol' head forward and they do not have the neck muscle to pick it back up. When their chin is to their chest, their airway is blocked. Think of a straw and if you bend it, it blocks liquid well that is similar to what happens to the baby's airways. So if your baby sleeps better in an elevated position (Sophia slept best in the swing and stroller), keep your attention on them to be sure their chin does not fall on their chest while sleeping. Also, it is best to not use head inserts that did not come with your infant seats as that can make it more likely for your baby to end up in the chin to chest position.
Babies cry a lot
Of course babies cry, we all know that. It's how they communicate and let you know if they are hungry, tired, need a diaper change, too hot, too cold, etc. But they cry A LOT, like a lot a lot and if you have a colic baby, it's harder because there is nothing to calm them down. Be prepared for a lot of crying from you and the baby to be honest, I shed some tears with Sophia a few times.
Lack of sleep
So your thinking, I can't wait to have this baby out of me so I can sleep comfortably. HA. There is no such thing as comfortable sleep as a parent especially if you bed-share willing or not. We did not plan to bed-share but when that is the only way to get that sweet little baby to sleep so you can get at least 30 minutes of sleep before her next feeding since you wasted so much precious sleep time trying to get her to sleep, you do what you gotta do. And even than, some think I will finally have sleep once the baby sleeps through the night but what people don't tell you is not all babies sleep through the night. The braggers brag of how they got their baby to sleep through the night by doing this, this and this. First off, all babies are different and not everything that works for one mom will work for another. Second, those moms that don't brag are probably the ones with their child still waking up in the night. My kid is that child, she wakes up multiple times during the night. What I can say is you get used to it.
Hip safety when baby-wearing
With the popularity of baby wearing and all these carriers in different price points, you wanna jump on the baby wearing bandwagon so you either buy one or someone gifts you with one but no one tells you to properly support your baby's hips when wearing him. If the baby's hips are not properly supported when wearing, it can lead to hip dysplasia. Please refer to Babywearing International for optimal positioning for babywearing.

Technically, Sophia has been out of my belly for almost 41 weeks and she was only in my tummy for 37 weeks but no need to be technical. Let's just say I was pregnant for about 9 months and Sophia is now 9 months old. She has been out in the world for almost as long as she was cooking in my belly, when she was being knitted together.
36 Weeks and 7 Days, the day before she was born.
To celebrate this, I wanted to share comparison photos of what Sophia looked like 9 months in the womb and 9 months out the womb, as well as share 9 things I have learned since becoming a mom.

Hey guys! Today I will keep it short and sweet because one I am super late on posting today and two I am hoping to even be able to finish this before Sophia gets too fussy. Cheerios are keeping her busy for now, haha.
Anways, there I was on Instagram (click link to follow me) and I decided to spontaneously show a quick Christmas tour (see my 2014 Christmas tree tour here). Of course my house is far from being completed and at this point I don't even know if it will be as we lost our Christmas tree lights. There just is not enough time in the day to get everything done.

Back to the point, I was giving this mini-tour on Instastory and I realized a lot of the pieces I am using to display our Christmas decor is a DIY and I actually have tutorials for them! So the whole point of this short and sweet post is to round up a few of my tutorials (click link for more not listed) that can help you display your Christmas decor that you can also use year round.
First up, is this really cute reclaimed holder. I originally made this piece to display my necklaces but I loved it in the dining room so much that it hasn't moved. During the year, the knobs are enough to keep it from looking to simple and every year at Christmastime we use it to display our stockings since we do not have a mantel.
This project is my favorite! During the year I have a plain black and gray bow attached to it. For Halloween, I tied small pieces of black ribbon around the antlers to look like bats. And now I have a red/gold/green bow attached with red and gold ornaments hanging from the antlers.
When I first made this Display, I had Sophia's ultrasounds showcasing and during Valentine's day I added a simple printable banner (here) that I created. Once Sophia was born, I started displaying her monthly photos but temporarily for Christmastime, I am displaying the Christmas cards we are receiving.
This was a quick tutorial I whipped up for my sister's birthday movie night I hosted. Just switch out the colors to match your Christmas decor!
For being quick, it actually is a little longer than expected, haha. I hope you enjoy these projects and find inspiration or attempt to make something using one of my tutorials! If you do be sure to tag me (@stormieariel) on social media and/or use #stormiearieltutorial

So guys, I normally have all my Christmas shopping done and presents wrapped but not this year. I am so behind mostly due to budget but also to timing. And I suck at gifting Anthony because I always give it away. I gave him his Father's Day present early. I was suppose to surprise him with a date night for his birthday but told him at lunch that we were going out baby-free that evening. So, its kinda good that I haven't gone shopping for him yet so I don't ruin it, haha.
Without my gift ruining, I am at a lost of what to give him as we don't have much money to spend and whatever I do spend, I don't want it to be something that is just eh, you know? I have been peeping other's gift guides for him but why does every one else have gifts that are super expensive or that are so fancy like cuff links, like my guy likes video games, music and I need ideas along those lines.

Time obviously hasn't stood still or frozen and Sophia is growing more and more each day. She is exploring the world around her and constantly studying new things and what seems like she is wanting to figure out how things work. If she is anything like her daddy, she will get to the point in taking things apart but hopefully she'll know how to put it back together, haha.

Time is moving way too fast, as I say every month. Babygirl is already eight months old and I have started the planning process of her first birthday party, just the details such as what I want to serve, decorations I want to make, pricing for cake, etc. I get overwhelmed thinking how in a few short months my baby will be a year old and it is certainly bittersweet.
Although, this month in particular has been very difficult (as you can tell from our photoshoot, haha). Since coming back home from our first family vacation to New York, Sophia has digressed tremendously. She has been back in the bed with us and waking up multiple times through out the night. It has been tough but I wouldn't change it.

When I was planning our trip to New York (UPDATE: Trip Recap here), I had so much fun picking out all of our outfits (to be honest, I started on my outfits months ago haha) but I never realized how much fun it was to play in Sophia's closet as well. When selecting her outfits for our trip, I wanted to make sure she was warm enough as Northerners have real fall compared to us Houstonians. Like it barely turned fall now, like two days ago.
Anyways, once we returned home I was so excited for Sophia to wear the same outfits that she wore in New York down here in the South and I even created more fall looks. The problem is, it has been too hot until now which is why I am barely sharing Fall Outfits towards the end of Fall because Houston doesn't know what seasons are.
A lot of her clothes are great finds from resell shops, Instashops including my own. If I can't find the exact items, I will link similar items for each piece of clothing.

After doing my first mommy and me mini session (see here), it inspired me to do more mini sessions (see more here). Particularly ones that go with the changing seasons or holidays; I did a Back to School Mini Session (see here) back in August and again while on a play date at a Pumpkin Patch, I was able to capture some shots of Blessing and her beautiful daughter.

Hey guys! Long time, no hear huh? Things have been crazy busy around here. Sophia is on the move and since being home from vacation, she picked up some not so nice habits of wanting to skip naps and sleep in our bed and wake up a million and one times throughout the night and not to mention the poor kid is still teething and not a single tooth has broke through yet! So this mama is tired and doesn't have the time to dedicate to blog as much as I wish I did. I have tons of ideas and I have photos for the posts, I just need to draft it but by time Anthony is home from work, it is straight school mode or we relax and enjoy each other's company. I mean you guys get it. Life happens and there are certain seasons you enter that are crazy hectic and exhausting but I wouldn't change this season we are in for the world. Being a mama is my dream and I am getting to live it and I love it with all it's challenges and rewards.
With all that said, I did manage to sneak some time for a Halloween tutorial, yay me! Honestly, this tutorial can be used for anytime or any occasion. The color of tissue papers you use is what makes it fit the occasion. For me, I created this purple and metallic silver garland for a Halloween movie night I hosted for my sister's 30th birthday. I wanted the decor to be simple yet fun so I decorated my TV dresser (we are using a dresser as our TV stand) as if it was a mantel because we don't have one and I provided a popcorn bar (I unfortunately did not get pictures of this because, let's be honest, I suck at this professional blogging thing. I did get inspiration from here so check Jessica's post if you are interested in how to set up a popcorn bar).
Anyways, this project was free for me because I am a tissue paper hoarder. I am that person that carefully opens gifts and folds all the tissue paper neatly and saves the gift bags/boxes to reuse and I am also that person that tells people to not rip the box or tissue paper that I put their gift in because I can still reuse it another time. Don't judge.
I broke the steps down and tried to make it as dummy proof as possible, I even contemplated making a video tutorial but with a talkative and active baby, I only get one shot so I didn't try but if your interested in that kind of thing, let me know in the comments and I will update the tutorial if needed!

The greatest part of this tutorial is it is basically free or cost very little money.
So be honest, who else is a tissue paper hoarder?

It's been while since I have shared some photography sessions as I have been trying to keep up with my almost 8 month old. Like holy cow, next week I will have an 8 month old baby; I plan on sharing her 8 month update soon but for the meantime check out her 7 month update.
Anyways, this Mommy and Me session (see my last one here) was quite the adventure. We were battling the humidity, mosquitoes, the setting sun, a fussy baby and an exploring toddler. It was a lot of fun but definitely an adventure, haha.

My baby girl is getting so big and so fast, I need time to slow down like for real. Can someone enact the same curse that the Evil Queen did for Storybrooke?
Everyday Sophia is learning something new and once she learns something, its stuck in her head and she knows she can do it and there is no stopping her! She is one determined little baby and, boy, does she get frustrated when things don't go her way or if she can't get something done fast enough (I wonder where she learned that from?).
